Fallow and Oak
Materials are Linoleum, Caligo oil based inks, and Rives cotton paper. The image of the Fallow deer was first sketched in pencil directly on unmounted linoleum, then carved. An uncarved piece of 12X12 linoleum was inked first to create the background, and hand-pressed onto the paper. The deer block was then rolled with brown-black ink and pressed onto the paper. White highlights are added with a paintbrush using titanium white watercolor. The heraldic symbols of stag and oak denote strength and wisdom, attributes the deer will need to survive a New Hampshire winter. Image size unframed is 12X12 inches.
