Ursus et Rubus
Materials used are Linoleum, Caligo oil based inks, and Rives Cotton paper. This image is made with three separate linoleum blocks. The bear is first sketched in pencil directly onto the linoluem, then carved. A second 9X12 piece is carved with the blackberry foliage. A third uncarved piece is rolled with the background color and hand-pressed onto the paper. Followed by the foliage piece, which is rolled with a contrasting color. Finally, the bear piece is rolled with a brown-black ink and pressed onto the paper. This is accomplished by hand, without a printing press. The black bear is serene in the cool shade of the blackberry bramble. Image size unframed is 9X12 inches.
